Mark Newell is the LSMRP hatchery program manager at Sir Sanford Fleming and he has provided the club with this update as of 13 Jun 2012.
Mark was happy to report that things are proceeding nicely with a good number of fish in each of the three families that placed SSF in an excellent position to hit the maximum production target of (approx) 2000 fall fingerlings this year. All three families are progressing well in the critical early stages of feed training. While they are experiencing a high occurrence of cannibalism at this stage of development, it is within expected levels and SSF staff were engaging in the normal active response to keep it under control.
The largest fish are from the first family received on May 3 and the big guys in this family are just about 5cm (2 inches) now.
Great news Mark - hope things go as planned for the rest of the program!
