October:
Thursday October 20th, 7:30PM – Chapter Meeting with special guests Gord Pyzer and Liam Whetter
As a chapter, we are committed to providing you with the best in Muskie education. Coming up on Thursday October 20th, we have one of the top authorities in Ontario fisheries and the fish we pursue there – Gord Pyzer accompanied with his Muskie extraordinaire grandson Liam Whetter, who has quickly become a Muskie Pro, following his grandfathers footsteps. As we move into mid fall and late fall conditions, Gord and Liam can help all of us be more focused and effective on the water. They will both be joining us in a hybrid meeting. You don’t want to miss an opportunity talking to the Doc himself!

Gord has an impressive set of credentials; he is a Fishing Editor of Outdoor Canada Magazine and the Field Editor for In-Fisherman Magazine & Television. Gord is also a member of both the Canadian Angler Hall Fame and the Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame.

We also have important news to share with the chapter on financial progress and the status of Muskies Canada elections for both the national organization and the chapter. We are also hoping that people can make it in person this month, we will be having an added draw exclusively for chapter members attending in person.

September:
Thursday September 15th, 7:30PM – Chapter Meeting with special guest Noah Clarke of Clarkey Baits
The Mississauga Chapter is pleased to announce our September Chapter meeting, this month showcasing a local well known and achieved bait builder, Clarkey Baits.


We are delighted to have the proud owner and operator of Clarkey Baits, Noah Clarke presenting Live on Thursday September 15th, 7:30PM at the Port Credit Legion. Noah has an abundant amount of Muskie knowledge and tons of experience building and working with wood, creating some impressive and unique baits. He will be explaining his successful bait line up and giving top insight on such thing as how to fish them, where and when to fish them, different techniques and most importantly, coving the seasons of using them. This will be great information for both summer and for the upcoming fall season. Noah will also be answering audience questions live. There may or may not be some Clarkey Baits in the house that evening! 😉

Our prize table for the evening is open to all MCI members and will include 2 separate special Clarkey Baits as the grand prizes along with other great items. Don’t miss out, come join the fun!

Thursday May 19th, 7:30PM – Welcome Back In Person Meetings!
We are excited to announce that are next upcoming Chapter Meeting is back live and in person. To celebrate the start of in person meetings again, 1st round of beer and pizza is on us! Come out and celebrate together! We will be back at our original venue, the Port Credit Legion in Mississauga (35 Front St N, Mississauga). Kick off is at 7:30PM where beverages and food will be served to our members as a welcome back again meet and greet. We will also be continuing our awesome prize giveaways and the main prize for the evening will be a DK 9’ Subban Glitter Walleye (See pics below).

The Agenda for the evening:
We will be handing out your 2020 & 2021 seasons MCI Members Release Pins and Certificates, celebrating your catches and achievements (We’ve been waiting along time for this).
Also, we will have an in-depth discussion with some experienced French River anglers to go over the Wolseley Bay French River surrounding areas, sharing some maps and spots to get everyone ready for our French River Outing next month which will be held at Totem Point Lodge. If you are new or advanced to fishing the French River, you definitely want to be part of this discussion.

April:
We are delighted to have Jaime Sebastian from Fishing with Jaime Guide Service presenting live on April 21st at 7:00PM virtually on Zoom.

Jaime has over 40 years of experience on the water and is a unique multispecies fishing guide who guides year-round, however what makes him unique are his specialized backwoods lakes where he fishes for Muskie.

Jaime guides on various in-land lakes, Backwoods lakes from the Ottawa River to the Huntsville area, Algonquin Park, and the St-Lawrence river from Morrisburg to Lake Saint Francis. Jaime will talk about how he approaches and fishes for Muskies in the different bodies of water; for both trolling and casting, from the season opener to closer. Jaime averages over 100 muskies per year. Jaime’s success on these waterways speaks for itself with the trophy fish that he puts his clients on consistently every year. Have you heard his story about ‘Big Bertha’, a 57-inch beauty caught in these backwoods lakes?

Jaime is also working on a proposed funding project with Dr. Sean Landsman and other MCI members on the Petawawa River. This project is the study of deep water Muskellunge on The Petawawa waterways, which also includes genetic studies, migration movements and spawning locations along the river. We will be talking about this and taking questions for those who or want to learn more about this project.

We will have a beautiful HoseDaddy & a very cool 13” Thursty Lures up for grabs this month for MCI members. March:
We are delighted to have the proud owners and operators of Mad Chasse Lures & Tackle, Mathieu Chasse accompanied by Lawrence Bendandi from Fish Whistle Lures and Tackle presenting Live on March 17th at 7:00PM.Mad Chasse lures is a family ran business focused on bladed lures and mods. They have been making lures since 2017, their products are designed to catch and withstand the largest muskies that all of us anglers are after. With incredible innovations like the Mad Tails, unique flashabou blends and quality powder coated blades, MC lures produces some of the wildest tools for your musky fishing arsenal. Mathieu will be showcasing live a lot of cool new products that are about to hit the market, some very interesting mods we all could use to put more fish in the net. Mathieu, Lawrence and the Mad Team are about to be going on the Mad Tour soon, a project on musky fishing education, conservation and the promotion of small businesses involved within the musky community. Come join and learn all about it!

We will also be remembering our departed MCI brother Bill Van Voorden (aka, The Silver Fox). His daughter will be joining us, sharing some stories and memories along side our MCI members who had the privilege fishing and learning from Bill.

The Mississauga Chapter is pleased to announce our February Chapter meeting, this month showcasing a local well known and achieved bait builder, MKT Lures. We are delighted to have the proud owner and operator of MKT Lures, Mark Taylor presenting Live on February 17th at 7:00PM. Mark has an abundant amount of knowledge and tons of experience building and working with wood, creating some impressive baits. He will be showing off his very successful bait line up which include his popular top waters, crank baits, glide baits and spooks. Mark will be teaching us how his baits are made locally here in Canada, the techniques used to catch BIG fish on them, and will be answering your questions live.Our prize table for the evening is open to all MCI members and will include 3 big hitter baits! On the table will have 2 different 11″ MKT Lures along side a BWB 9” Cisco as our grand prize. Winners will be announced during the meeting. Same format as past meetings, unlimited spots. We are delighted to have a very successful well known Ottawa River Guide and owner of the Ottawa Musky Shop, Jean Laprise joining us for a presentation Live on January 20th at 7:00PM for our January Chapter Meeting.Jean Laprise is a Canadian professional Musky angler and guide, best known for guiding the Upper Ottawa River and Lake St. Francis. Years of promoting hard work, dedication and many hours on the water has landed him some great sponsors such as Blue Water Baits, Musky Innovations, Huskie Muskie Leaders, Spanky Baits, Brunswick Baits, Skoll gear, St Lawrence Musky shop and 54 or Bust. When Jean is not guiding, he is fishing with his son to become the next future Musky Pro! Jean is also known as the owner of the Ottawa Musky Shop. Jean just lives Muskies! We are also very exited to team up with Jean to give away a full day guided trip on the Ottawa River as our grand prize for the evening for our prize table this month. Doug Wegner is a very well known Professional Musky guide, musky educator and online video series entertainer. Doug Wegner has been running musky guided fishing trips since 2015, taking his clients on adventures all over the Midwest, including Canada. Growing up in South East Wisconsin, Doug started fishing at a very young age. Over the years, Doug had access to many lakes that he used to sharpen his skills. Most of his spare time was spent traveling to destinations all over North America chasing his favorite species: Muskies. Doug uses his electronics, experience, and instincts to be successful on the water. His passion for the sport runs deep, this has inspired him to share that same passion with his customers on every guided trip. He also shares his education of fishing by speaking at sports shows, local fishing clubs, large group events and even offers Musky School where he educates fellow anglers on how to be more successful on the water!

    Thursday November 18th, 2021 at 7PM EST – With special guest Brent Bochek from ‘Setting the Hook’ series and Fish NV guiding .
    Brent Bochek is the owner and operator of FISH NV Guiding, concentrating on musky in the Kawartha Lakes. He has his own fishing show and is the host of ‘Setting the Hook’ and is also frequently featured as a host guide on “Need to Fish” TV series.
    Brent Bochek is a talented multi species angler with a special passion for chasing Musky. Brent has been chasing musky for over 20 years. He has been a member of Muskies Canada since 1990, he was invited to fish in the 1992 World Musky Hunt, the youngest member to date to have fished the event. He enjoys writing about his adventures and many of his articles have been published. He has been a featured seminar speaker at many Boat, Fishing And Outdoor Shows and is also a Pro-Staff member with Suick for many years. His experience and personality are a great combination for a fun-filled educational meeting.
    Our prize table for the evening is open to all MCI members and will include 2 hard to get baits. Rob has been fishing the St Lawrence River for decades and will be sharing lots of insight of the musky fishery as it stands today, its history over the years, current projects on the river, and why your fish of a life time that you are looking for swims these waters. He will also be showcasing some of his very successful bait line up, the techniques used to catch BIG fish on them and will be answering your questions live. Thursday May 20th, 2021 at 7PM EST – With special guest Mike Parker from Handlebarz Musky Lures & Handlebarz Fishing Guide Service
Mike Parker is a very well known Musky bait builder and successfully fishing guide which we welcomed to our May’s Chapter meeting. Mike shared some of his adventures on the water and gave us tips and guidance to catch more fish. Mike Parker is the owner of Handlebarz Musky Lures and Musky fishing guide extraordinaire for Handlebarz Fishing Guide Service. He and his family have grown their business from their Chatham Ontario home into one of the most respectable bucktail musky companies out there that catch lots of really big fish.

Canadian Muskie waters are all supported by wild populations. Thus, proper fish handling and a strong catch-and-release ethic become essential to maintaining our fisheries. Our experts will go over best practices to help ensure healthy releases.

RECORD-BREAKING AUCTION RESULTS FOR MUSKIES CANADA 2021 VIRTUAL ODYSSEY: $49,000 RAISED FOR MUSKY RESEARCH AND REHABILITATION. All proceeds will be donated to Musky research.

Thursday Arpil 15th, 2021 at 7PM EST – With special guest Gord Pyzer
Gord is widely regarded as Canada’s most scientific angler. Known in fishing circles as Doctor Pyzer, he worked for 30 years as a senior manager with Ontario’s Ministry of Natural Resources before devoting all his energies to fishing. A member of the Canadian Angler Hall of Fame, the award-winning writer is also an internationally sought out speaker, tournament angler and field editor with In-Fisherman Magazine and Television.

Thanks for joining and learning with us again! It’s always amazing to hear stories and learn lessons from all of Gord’s years of experiences and studies on the water. We are privileged and honoured to have Gord Pyzer as an incredible ambassador to our sport and we appreciate all his years supporting us at Muskies Canada.

We had again an overwhelming response in support for our prize table and Chapter this month. We are so lucky to be part of such an amazing Musky Community! We had 137 people join us. We had not 1 but 3 different Hosebaits to give away to our lucky members. Congratulations to David Roach, Logan Prout and Brian Ernest for winning each a Hosebait package.


March:
Thursday March 18th, 2021 at 7PM EST – With special guest Matt O’Brien
Matt is a very successful well known French River Guide and YouTube sensation star from Slobland Flicks which shared with us lessons on how to catch more French River beauties to prepare us for the Muskie opener. Matt is a professional guide who puts up impressive numbers consistently. He seems to have an ability to find them when no one else can. His ability to put his clients on BIG Muskies on a regular basis guarantees you an unforgettable fishing trip and to become a better Muskie angler!

We had an overwhelming response in support for our prize table and Chapter this month. We are so lucky to be part of such an amazing Musky Community! We had a total of 96 people online join us virtually. Congratulations to Muskies Canada Member Joseph Klee for winning the grand prize of the 2 day/ 2 nights all inclusive stay at the beautiful Chaudiere Lodge and the full day fishing guide experience with Matt O’Brien on the French River, valued over $1100.

February:
Thursday, February 18th, 2021 at 7PM EST – With special guest Landry Smith from Rover Baits
Landry has an abundant amount of knowledge and tons of experience when it comes to soft-plastic swim baits. He showcased his very successful bait lineup, educated us on how his baits are made locally here in Canada, the techniques used to catch BIG fish on them, accessories to use with them and answered all our questions live. What an awesome guy and amazing baits that he makes!

Congratulations to Tony Miceli for winning the grand prize form our prize table a new Black Perch Flat Shad Hosebait and runner-up’s Danny Cawley and Ryan Fagundo going home with Rover Baits prize packages.

Great Chapter meeting with Frank Thurston from Thursty Lures. We had over 40 people online for our Virtual Chapter meeting and lots of great solid advice and good insight on how to run these amazing lures. The tips and tricks learned will help many of us put some big fish in the net this upcoming season. We are privileged and honoured to have Frank support Muskies Canada Mississauga.

Congratulations to Glenn Tonge and Mark Hornick for winning our raffle. They walked away with their very own custom paint 9” and 13” Thursty Lures.
